Hiring part-time workers seems simple at first glance. In reality, it often means dozens of emails, scheduling appointments, repetitive questions, and minimal time for actually comparing candidates.
Goal: Same interview for everyone, no scheduling hassle
The basic idea was simple:
- all candidates get the same questions
- they have the same time to answer
- they choose their own time slot
- the organizer gets results without needing to be present at the interview
We wanted to eliminate manual coordination, phone calls, and email forwarding.
Technical solution: n8n + FairStream API
The entire process is managed by an automation workflow in n8n:
- n8n detects an email response to the job posting — The candidate's name and email are automatically parsed.
- n8n calls the FairStream API — A stream is created for the specific candidate, questions are set, maximum response time is configured, and self-scheduling mode is enabled.
- Candidate receives an invitation email — They get a link where they can choose their time (immediately or in a few days).
- Account manager sees the scheduled time — Once the candidate picks a time, the organizer receives confirmation.
- After the interview, results arrive by email — The organizer receives a transcript, AI summary and recommendations, and a link to the video recording.
💡 Key benefit: The entire process runs without manual intervention from the first email to the evaluation.
What it looks like from the candidate's perspective
From the candidate's perspective, the process is very simple:
- they respond to the job posting
- they receive an interview invitation
- they choose their time
- they answer questions via video
No installation required and no complicated login. They complete the interview at a time that suits them.
What the hiring manager sees
The organizer (whether owner, operations manager, or HR):
- knows when the interview will take place
- doesn't need to be present
- after completion, has access to video, transcript, and structured AI summary
Candidates can be compared at leisure, perhaps in the evening after closing or during a quieter part of the workday, without the stress of live calls and without time pressure.
What surprised us in practice
The first videos arrived about a week after publishing the job posting. But this matches reality — people prepare their answers in their own time.
What was important:
- the entire process ran automatically
- no manual coordination was needed
- once responses started coming in, nothing else needed to be handled
This is exactly the moment when automation starts making the most sense.
Why we used FairStream for interviews
FairStream was originally created as a framework for structured online discussions and moderated debates. During testing, we realized that the same principle:
- clearly defined questions
- limited response time
- automatic recording and transcription
surprisingly works well for hiring processes too. And since it was technically very easy to build this scenario on the existing FairStream framework, it would be a shame not to use it.
Where this approach makes sense
This type of interview is especially suitable for:
- part-time positions
- call centers
- retail stores and operations
- internships and school projects
Anywhere you need to quickly compare multiple candidates under the same conditions.
Want to try it?
Using FairStream for interviews doesn't have a separate pricing model yet. Honestly — we're still figuring out the price.
Right now we prefer to:
- gather feedback
- see real usage in different types of companies
- understand where it really saves people time and money
If this interview approach interests you, you can try it for free and give us feedback.
👉 Write to us at info@fairstream.live or register on FairStream and we'll be happy to help you set up your first interview.
When it turns out that it makes sense for all parties, we'll find a fair pricing model together that makes economic sense for small businesses and larger teams alike.
